Non-verbal communication for those that can read.

Proloquo4Text is a text based communication app that gives a voice to literate people who cannot speak. It has a customisable single screen layout with quick access to personal phrases, word and sentence prediction and other effort-saving features. There are 100 voices in 18 different languages included to allow for natural-sounding communication. A user can add character and humour to conversations by choosing specialty voices. Typing is reduced by using self-learning ‘PolyPredix’ word prediction. Users can type once and say it again using history and sentence prediction. There is also a play, pause and speak as you type option so a user can decide when they wish to speak and when they wish to pause. Proloquo4Text offers good accessibility as users can still communicate without an internet connection, enhance visual feedback with optional sentence or word highlighting and can be controlled with a switch or VoiceOver. The app can be customised to provide a screen layout to match an individual’s communication style, configure prediction, abbreviation expansion and privacy settings. Font, colour and text size can all be adjusted to a person’s individualised preference. Proloquo4Text will support all regular communication needs such as email and social media. It will work on iPhone, iPad and an Apple Watch. There is also a multitasking functionality to run another app side-by-side on supported devices. Version 3.4 introduced in December 2017 has iPhone X compatability , optimisation for IOS 11 and improved vision accessibility, this way a user can adjust text size in the Settings app which will then be reflected in Proloquo4Text options and edit mode. There is also optimised support for 10.5″ iPad. Proloquo4Text is available for purchase from the App Store.
